Hey guys! Your next band practice would be on friday, be in the music room by 1pm. All of you should have gotten your new scores, like Concord and Macbeth, please start working on them, like your rhythms and your notes, what to take note. Do all these simple stuffs at home so that we could have more time during combine to go through the pieces and know better about the pieces. Macbeth is not a easy song, section mates should help each other, regardless of you are a sec2 or sec4, everyone work together. Other than these pieces, please also not neglect your major scales, minor scales and your etudes. You wouldn't want to spend time in band going through scales and scales over again right? Be prepared for every band practice, don't come unprepared. Sec ones have came in and seen you guys before, set a good example to them. Even though there is not a lot of them, we have to cherish each and every one of them, take good care of them and make them feel welcomed inside band. Drink lots of water and take care of yourself! Tomorrow's the day to finally show off for what you have been practicing weekly and show the sec 1s how well you could actually memorise all these pieces! It's the day to not make any mistakes, show them how well we can actually be, and also to show our section strength!
Grab as many sec1s tomorrow to have them join us as a cca, introduce them in our different kinds of instruments and show them how friendly we are! Tell them more about our band culture, conductors, teachers and also how we could manage our time well with our studies. Hey bandmates! You guys enjoyed band bbq last week? Then its no time for games now, its time for serious work! I'm sure you guys know how well you played today right? Woodwinds combine with Ms Loh, sec ones having mistakes here and there and getting chased out by Ms Loh to have seniors practice and go through them with you, don't you guys feel guilty having not learn your parts well before coming to band? Rhythms, notes everything should be OUT by now! Why wait for your seniors to spoon feed you and ask you questions before you take the initiative to ask them beforehand? Even if you guys just gotten your scores recently, it doesn't mean that you have more rights to practice them longer, taking your own sweet time to learn each and every part. When you have much time in sectionals, why not learn everything at one go and instead wanting to just learn half of the song and the rest on other days, why not put in your effort now,learn everything correctly and show the next year sec1s your very best? Brasses combine with Mr Lim, I'm sure you guys can do a better job in your tone and also sec ones, I know you guys are trying hard but this isn't hard enough! Orientation is coming real SOON, are all your orientation stuffs like souvenirs and pamphlets completed yet? Feel the urgency and the urge to recruit many more sec ones next year into our band! HELLO BANDIES!

Tomorrow is our band's bbq already whoohoo!! The venue will be at Changi Beach Area A, BYOP1 and BYOP2. BYOP means Bring Your Own Pit but don't worry we'll settle that. :)
Please dress casually, don't wear until so nice, because you will get dirty! MUAHAHAHAHA. Do come around 1:30pm to 3pm. For those who are meeting together, meet Farraqhan and Faisal tomorrow at CCK control station at 12:30pm. Don't be late because we won't wait for you guys.
For those who are going on their own, there are a few ways you can go.

Take the mrt to Jurong East, then alight at Bedok. Take bus no. 2 and alight at Changi Village. Then you have to walk for about 5 mins across the pedestrian footbridge to the park.
Take the mrt to Jurong East, then alight at Pasir Ris. Then walk towards the bus stop near the White Sands Shopping Centre. Then take bus no. 89 and alight at Changi Village and walk for about 5 mins across the pedestrian footbridge to the park.

Bring umbrella, some card games like monopoly deal, uno, etc, ball game like volleyball.

The reason why we have this bbq is for bonding, alumni will also be coming and to know more about each other.

Are you guys all ready? Calm yourselves down these few days and keep practicing those parts that you are not sure of! Don't give up halfway, you've came so far for all these important events, don't let you effort go down the drain! Don't waste the efforts of your conductors coming back to help you guys improve, and also your seniors! Everyone made this possible, a group's effort. Apply what you learned, not only in playing but also in your drills. If you can't do drills together properly, it also means like a group of members not playing together! Nevertheless, please don't neglect your TICKET SALES! Hey guys! Your next band practice will be on wednesday, fall in 1pm in your school uniform!
16 more days to those taking part in ensemble competition and 15 more days to JBIC! Are you guys all READY YET? I'm sure you guys are not really ready for everything, spend your time wisely in band, the time where you get to play your piece together as an ensemble team. Anything unsure you could always ask around, we are one band, everyone should always help each other when in need. Sec ones, are you guys happy with your playing TODAY? Things that Ms Loh and Ms Ng have been teaching, why are there only some of you doing it while others are not even trying hard enough? If you have really watched the conductor, then why are some of you still slowing down in your playing? I know its tough, like holding long notes like 8 counts, but when there's a will there will be a way to everything. Holding long notes, also means that you have to hold your notes IN TUNE, not just 8 COUNTS! Like what Ms Loh said, use a tuner or metronome, this is reason for buying one for self use. Tuning Charts, its something you have to do daily also, if you don't want to spend 5-10mins of your precious time doing, then what for you bring home your instruments? Everyone is helping you guys to improve better, hope that you all would reflect on yourselves and make more improvements the next practice. Sec Ones please WAKE UP, it is already coming to the end of the year.

Hey band! Today's the first day of band after your long exam break! Sec ones, i'm sure you guys know how you played together with your seniors around beside you today, i hope you would go home and reflect on what mistakes you have made today and improve them, change them as soon as possible. JBIC is coming in less than a month's time, and you guys are the first band to be performing. I'm sure you would not want your audience to be scared away by your playing. Hey guys! Today is the last practice already! Your next practice will be after exams and would be informed through your SLs. Even though its the end of year examination week, I'm sure you guys would not study the whole day right? Take out part of your time to practice your instruments, if you cannot practice, at least read through your scores. I'm sure you do not want to let your tutor's effort go to waste, or even Mr Lim to come down to help you guys and then you guys forget everything. After exam breaks we really do not have much time left to ensemble competition. For sec ones, remember to do your tuning charts everyday and practice your instruments also! Remember to practice your instruments at home, tomorrow is e-learning day, im sure you would not use the whole day to do your assignments. Find time to practice at home! Hey guys! tommorow is finally the day, after weeks of preparation for the new pieces and as well as the other pieces that we have already played before. Please really take care of yourselves and as well as your health. Tommorow will be a really long day if you include school hours in it. so drink lots and lots of water and sleep early tonight! remember to practice your instruments too. if you can't, listen to the recording and follow through your scores. it'll be best to practice with a metronome. Online metronomes can be found on net so there will be no excuse if you forgot to bring home your metronomes. :) Don't neglect your studies too! finish up all your homework before practicing! you do not want teachers to be scolding you tommorow yeah? Play out and play your best tommorow at NTU! Also, do your best in the rehearsal at NTU! it is also very important. You do not want to dissapoint Mr lim, the teachers, as well as the alumni right? So play well, play out and do your best. Don't be nervous, and focus on Mr Lim all the time. Please do not lose focus especially while playing, and also please report to the music room on time for tommorow so that necessary preparations can be done and we won't be late to NTU! Hey band ! Watch this video and observe how the musicians enjoy the piece that they are playing .

See how they look at their conductor , move and sway to the music that they themself played . Some of them even smiled when they were playing . They were able play so beautifully is because they enjoy the music but also because they practiced . You all have the time to go out and play or play computer why not take that time to practice and play beautiful musics like them ? Learn from this video and enjoy the time when we are having combine to play any piece of music as nicely as them . Hey guys! i guess all of you have already received the scores given by the librarians during monday practice yeah? For those who have not gotten, please get from your SL. please practice during the days where they are no band practice because you guys do not want to waste time letting mr lim sorting out your parts during combine right! so please practice :) some of you guys may think that the pieces aren't really that hard but the articulation of the rhythms and your intonation might be very important for the piece! so please do not take the pieces so lightly and practice. :) After monday's practice i guess all of you have reflected on what Mr Teo and Ms Koon said right? During this whole trip we have already lost quite a number of stuffs and Mr Lim even commented on us for having a history of losing things. Like what Ms Koon have said, it is very embarrasing for our band. i can see that the teachers and Mr lim were really upset with us as they didn't expect so many incidents and things to happen in Taiwan that upset them so much. Like talking about our responsibilty, our discipline and our behaviour. everything was very unexpected. I think all of us must really reflect on what the teachers had said and always keep their words in mind. Please do not fall sick during this week as POP is coming. The weather is very hot these days. take care and drink lots of water! practice too! :)

Hey guys! so we're back from taiwan! :) it was a fun and enriching trip for all of us yeah? i guess everyone learnt a lot from this trip and bonded quite a lot as a band instead of staying together as a clique everytime in Singapore. As you guys know, our first performance at Nanke wasn't really that good and mr lim as well as the teachers were really upset with us. Why do you guys think that the first performance wasn't good? i guess its because for the first performance. our mind wasn't ready to play and not prepared. and some of us may be very nervous. so we got to learn that we can't be too confident and we must always be ready to perform and play out all our parts instead of just going up on stage, panicking and not looking at the conductor. Throughout this three performances we have, i guess you guys know what you have to improve on and what weaknesses you have when performing infront of a big crowd. So its good to reflect more on what happened during these three performances and improve on it. :) one more week till school reopens! remember to finish up all your homeworks. take care. :)

For those who renewed your passports within 23 May to 3 June , please go back to school tomorrow morning at 8am to collect it back from Ms Koon and go to ICA as your passports have to be re-issued .

Please make sure you know all the rhythms for all the pieces for tomorrow's performance. Make sure you care about your intonation and LOOK AT THE CONDUCTOR. There are many parts with pauses and changing of speed. Please be attentive at all times. I don't want just because SYF is over,then you guys don't care. Stop going back to the same standard. Do you really want that 'Gold' to be that 15minutes and let others say that we are just lucky or you really want to prove them that we are capable.

Shouldn't you guys be doing something about it? Putting extra effort won't kill. What if,like what Keechong said,if we really get 79.99? It's a Silver. There's a huge difference between the word 'Silver' and 'Gold' and who cares about the percentage? Just that bit of extra effort helps too,if every single one of you are also putting in effort. Don't you find yourself more slack than the period of time when we practiced for SIBF?

Remember,the principal have high hopes on this band. Remember about getting a room? You think it's that easy to get what others don't have? Work for it! Yes,it's tiring but bear with it and it's just less than 2 weeks away so why not just go for it and practice reaaal hard IN THE RIGHT WAY? For this two weeks only.

These are the recordings we played during the SCH rehearsal. Don't just sit there and listen but think about what you could have done better. Hopefully,after listening to these recordings,you guys will know what are your weaknesses and work more on it. Basic things like intonation,dynamics..I'm sure you guys know how to do it but you guys just don't want to do it. It's like everything have the same volume,your mp and your forte all sound the same.

Don't you want to make the pieces sound much better? Don't you want an improvement? Don't you want to get Gold? Have you forgotten the time when you shouted "Yes mdm! or Yes sir!" as a band loudly that you want to get Gold? Where's that spirit? Come on,it's just another 2 more weeks to the next rehearsal,the very very last rehearsal! It's not that hard at all! In fact,all it takes is everybody's effort. Start by working hard yourself cause I'm sure it's influential to the people around you!

Today was our very first practice after the long break and now we won't be having band practices again all the way until the day after Christmas! Make full use of these long breaks to memorize the pieces,do some drills at home,practice your SYF piece and also help one another with the CCA orientation stuffs like banner,pamphlets or souvenirs department etc if you have the time! Because we are already very lack of time,there are many things not done! Use your time wisely okay and drink lots of water + eat vegetables and fruits to stay healthy! :D

Ask yourself, do you think you are up to standard? Are you sure your section are capable enough? Band, after seeing this video, I hope you guys really appreciate what you have. You see, Nick don't even have any limbs, yet he cherishes his life, strive for the best in everything he does and lives his life to the fullest. He never blames anyone for his disadvantage. Some of you guys, upon receiving a difficult score/piece, you guys just complain the piece is difficult, or simply give up, just like that. Nick don't have limbs, he cant even have the ability to hold up an instrument and play, but still, he discovered his own talents, and he overcome all the tough challenges in life through his own way.

No matter what difficulties you face, whatever challenges. discrimination from other people, i hope you guys can learn from Nick and overcome them. Whatever hard pieces you get, challenging rhythms, chords, etc, always remember to give your best shot, and never ever give up.

Just like what Nick said, everyone of you is important in this upcoming OPUS event. No one gets left behind. RWS needs every single one of you. If your seniors reprimand you, they care for you. They want EVERYONE to succeed together. All for one, one for all.

Nick is a great example of someone strong in will and will never give up no matter how difficult a situation and be. I know everyone is exhausted by the intense practices, but everyone of us is in this together. Our seniors put in so much effort to build up this band like how the way it is today. I'm sure you guys don't want to put their efforts to waste.

If someone says you cant do it, never get defeated by their words. You guys should work harder, to prove that particular person that look down on you that you can do it. Like what Nick said: It's a lie to think that you are not good enough. No one can tell you who you are and what you can be. You define yourself.

Hey Band, there are some things I want to highlight to you guys:

Firstly, your discipline during combine. When the student conductors are taking warm ups, please show basic respect to them. When the student conductor is conducting/running through scales, etc, those members that want to join the band MUST NOT ask permission from the conductor to join until the conductor is finished with whatever he/she is going through. This have happened numerous times and you guys should have realised it earlier, and not realising it now after reading this post.

Secondly, alertness. When the student conductors/conductors hand is up, all instruments up, IMMEDIATELY. This is the very basic rule all band members must follow.

Thirdly, tuning. When student conductors are running through the 8 counts 4 counts rest, you guys should be listening down amongst your various sections and the band. by doing so, tuning would not be so long and draggy. Every minute holds the utmost importance. You guys might thing OPUS V is still far away. You guys better wake up. Stop wasting your own precious time, the band's precious time. Everyone holds a big role in the band. Be it a clarinetist, or a tubist, all of you guys are precious to the band. Our Band.

Fourthly, respect for our conductors. they take their precious time out to come for our practices, just for us. But yet everytime we let them down by not practicing. When changing of pieces, MINIMISE THE VOLUME. I do not think you guys need to talk. Do not drag the chairs when you are moving them. LIFT THEM UP.

Lastly, which is the most important of all. SECTIONALS AND COMBINE TIME IS NOT FOR YOU GUYS TO SORT OUT YOUR RHYTHMS AND NOTES. You guys should have sort all those things out during your self practise at home, that is if you guys make the effort to bring home your instruments to practice. Mr Lim, Ms Loh and Ms Chang are not here to help you figure your notes and rhythm. The weather nowadays is hot. Please do remember do take care of yourself, drink more water in order minimise the chances of falling ill. Stay healthy!! Don't Facebook too much! Sleep early!!

About With Quiet Courage: (Read it to understand!)

Larry Daehn was born in Rosendale, Wisconsin, in 1939 and grew up on the farms of that state. He received a B.A. in Musical Education from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh in 1964 and his Masters degree in 1976 from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville. He has been a teacher of music for 33 years; the last 27 of them at the New Glaris (WI) High School. A past president of the Wisconsin chapter of Phi Beta Mu, he was honored by that organization as Outstanding Bandmaster. Daehn has composed With Quiet Courage, in memory of his mother, and As Summer Was Just Beginning. An avid admirer of Percy Grainger, he has written several arrangements of that composer's melodies and an article on the Grainger Museum. He is the owner of Daehn Publications.

"Her life was heroic, but without fanfare.

She worked and hoped and inspired.

She loved and was loved.

Her life was a noble song of quiet courage."

With those words, Larry Daehn dedicated this composition to the memory of his mother. He describes her as a brave woman who raised her family through the hardships of farm life in Wisconsin. Despite the loss of both legs due to diabetes, she lived with nobility and quiet courage. She loved to sing. These qualities are evident in this composition, which was written in the summer of 1995 following Lois Daehn's death. It is a song that is passed between the horns, saxophones, a solo trumpet, percussion, and finally to the full ensemble. Building from a quiet pianissimo to the strength of a fortissimo, it concludes with the gentle chords symbolic of the open Wisconsin farmland and a full and rewarding life. With Quiet Courage was premiered by the U.S. Navy Band in our nation's capital in 1995.

Seniors: I know all of you already received your Merry Widow score so please REALLY practice hard before you can get started with other pieces. Show out all you have all right? Tomorrow will be the day without any seniors for most of you! :D Show that you CAN PLAY WELL and ALWAYS look at the conductor because UNTIL today, for the centuria part in which you have to slow down right,you guys didn't look at the conductor and therefore,some of you played wrongly. Another part is Hawaii,there's one part you need to crescendo BUT you didn't. Always LOOK at the conductor and the conductor will sometimes do some actions like ask you to play softer or something like that.

I know you can do it. Just think of impressing everyone that is watching you and when you are nervous,remember about the Sunflowers technique? USE IT! Since now SIBF is over, let's look forward to the upcoming events and practise even harder to achieve greater heights. Meanwhile, I would also like to take this chance to thank some people.

Notably,

-Miss Loh for spending lots of time and effort on us. Her patience and guidance definitely help us through during the preparation for SIBF.

-Mr Lim for coming down during the night practises to teach us new concepts

-All of the teachers, for arranging all the practises. Making sure the logistics is alright. Getting our last minute requests or needs fufilled.

As for the band, what has happen is all over. I hope everyone of us has brought home something meaningful to reflect on. We should all start to work on our basics and take out all the technique books to start trying on some exercises.

Drink lots of water and sleep early! I believe that the process of improving and learning is even more important than the outcome! Whatever outcome you get,you must know that whether you have given your best shot or not.

What you think is what you will receive. It's all about setting the right mindset. Don't tense up! Just relax and always be alert at all times!

Please remember what you should do okay! I believe your seniors or alumni have already told you.

2 more days to SIBF,1 more practice to SIBF.

There's really nothing much to say but it all depend on every single one of you. I really hope that all of you remember what Mr Lim said and since there's no practice tomorrow,use the time wisely at home to practice for those that brought home their instruments.

On the day itself,

- Play EVEN better than how you play during combine.

- Please remember where you are sitting.

- DO NOT tap your feets.

- DO NOT look at other places like the audiences cause there's a high chance that you will play wrongly.

- Listen for your intonation,don't just play out everything.

- Look at the conductor,look at what is written on your score.

- ALWAYS remember to apply what you've learnt!!!

You guys will tend to get excited or anxious and will totally forget about eg. like HOW you should breathe,listen to the other section which your section should listen to etc.

LOOK! LISTEN! REACT FAST!

Goodnight,drink plenty of water! Practice hard tomorrow!

Always remember what KunJie told you : The more scared/nervous you are,the more you have to look at the conductor!

These are the things Mr Lim and Ms Loh have already taught you guys. APPLY THEM.

Like balance..be balance within your section before you get balance with the band. Phrasing is also another thing they have taught you guys right? And I hope you know the rest like intonation,tone quality (no matter you are playing pp or ff,your tone quality should be good.) and also look out for dynamics,they are the ones helping you to make your music sound better so USE IT and don't take it for granted.

On that day itself,I hope that you guys will keep your eyes on the conductor. Remember : The more nervous you are,the more chances you will play wrongly and hence, LOOK AT THE CONDUCTOR.

And what are you guys doing? During combine,we play as a band and not one by one. So please sort out whatever that you can't play and ask when you are not sure.

APPLY WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNT!!

I know all of you know what to apply so APPLY THEM,you will feel uncomfortable but it is better than staying in the same standard and never improve right?

STOP DEPENDING ON OTHERS,depending on yourself! Reflect and think about HOW MUCH effort you have put in and do you really care about this competition.

I hope everyone will APPLY what you have learnt yesterday for EVERY combine,practices and just everything okay. Like you have to be balance within your section before you listen to other section etc. Remember which instrument you have to listen to. I really hope that you DID NOT FORGET about what you have learnt yesterday. If you know you will forget,get a pencil and paper to write it down! Don't be lazy.

Yesterday,when Mr Lim asked us to play for 15 and a half beat and breathe for another half beat,some of you didn't do it properly. You even breathe half way through. Can you guys do it seriously? Just 6 more practices and 14 more days! Appreciate what you have been taught and apply them. Don't take things for granted.

If you want to improve,you will obviously feel uncomfortable while in the progress of improving. So if you want to feel comfortable every time then you can forget about improving and also forget about playing even better. Last night,you guys said that you want to achieve Gold for SIBF. From the tone you have said,I know most of you didn't mean it but just to follow the rest and say gold. If you WANT to get gold for SIBF,work hard. Stop staying in the same standard! Keep improving and improving!

Guys! SIBF is getting closer day by day! If you want to get good results,you will have to put in effort and not just a bit of effort but a lot a lot of effort and hard work must be contributed in order to see the results you want. I'm referring to EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU,not just 30 or 20 over people should work hard but YOU,yourself have to contribute too.

You must spend your time practicing AS A SECTION and sort out things as a section during sectionals with the SLs. Listen to the conductor and don't use the time to chit chat cause the more you talk,the more you will miss. Instead of day dreaming or waiting for the conductor to sort out other section's things,jot down notes that you think you will not be able to remember so that you can remember to apply it every time and also read your scores and practice your fingering while waiting. Spend your time wisely. Sorting out the section's things is the SLs' job and not the conductor's job so PLEASE do sort them out during sectionals so that we can save more time and improve on other things. Last minute of practicing is not going to work!

I know it's hard but everyone is doing the same things. Practicing is NOT just one person's duty but EVERYONE. Since you are in band,you do things together as a band and strive for something together. That's the band spirit. And PLAY OUT,show what you've been practicing for this past few weeks! (:

And sec ones',YOUR very own performance without the seniors are also getting closer.

Hey Sec 1s! I know that the audition have just pass and i will be posting who had passed the auditions and who failed. As for those who failed, don't feel too upset, you still have a concert coming up. But for those who have passed, you have to work doubly hard and learn the new pieces faster. "Setbacks are just things that kept you going and 1 step nearer to your goal." For now, some of your goals are SIBF and the rest of you your goals are your concert. If you guys really did listen to what i said after band today, i told the Sec 1s to go to my facebook profile under notes to check out Notes section what i write and the advice i gave to

BAND! You really have to work veryveryvery hard! I know it's tough, it's hard. But the amount of effort put in is put into good use. Do you know what effort means? Edi had stated that in the previous posts, so look through it and think what does effort really means to you. Yes, our goal for SIBF is to aim for gold. But you only care about getting gold, did you guys ever enjoy the process of playing music? Did you have fun playing your pieces, and enjoy it? You have to read the notes, the dynamics, but, did you enjoy playing your music?
Stop making Ms Loh repeating her mistakes over and over again. SLs! It's your job to remind the section. Once she mentions her mistakes, do it and stop wasting time. If you think 20 days is long, you are wrong. Count the amount of practices we have! There's no more time! You keep saying that you did practice at home, then where is the results? What i'm seeing now is Ms Loh repeating your mistakes over and over again. And these are stuff that the SLs are suppose check, not the conductors. I really hope you guys really did reach home, read your score and not leaving them in your bag. Bringing back home the instrument, but leaving them in the storeroom, collecting dust. It's really useless.

This way, you only bring back your instrument for the sake of bringing, just because your seniors ask you too. What's the point? And the money you guys spent to buy the metronome and tuners. I hope you won't waste you money just like that. Leaving it at home. If there were to be sectionals tmr, i really hope that you will treasure the time you have with your section. Go through stuff Ms Loh went through today, and don't make the same mistakes again during combine.

JIAYOU! I believe you guys can do it. I have faith in you. Stop making the seniors worried. It's time to wake up and practice hard. Let's make Mr Lim proud of us, like how he was when our seniors won SYF with gold. Make him and Ms loh have a different mind set of us. That we can do it without the seniors, that we don't have to be dependent on the seniors , we can be as good as the seniors. Let's work hard! So juniors, stop hiding behind your seniors back and play out. That's the only way you can learn your mistakes!

Clarinet Section, Must Watch This!

I think this is really important, cause embouchure is what you start to take not first before producing any sounds. So, follow closely.

This is really useful. I'm not asking you all to play like how he does but at least do what he did for the; articulations, dynamics, tone and etc. And listen attentively to what he says. He's really awesome! And, you can't see what he see in his score but you can listen. If possible, do take down notes or something. Remember it and most importantly, APPLY IT.
This helps for your pieces cause what he teaches here has got to do with your current pieces too!

Asha, You gotta watch this. You'll be amazed obviously. Watch everything he does. But don't only watch what regards to you, the above ones are also useful for you, IT'S THE SAME THING as in the technique to play it.

P.S I suggest you all plug in earpiece to your computer and listen, it's clearer! :))

And for the rest of the members, SLs - I think you should find something like this for your section too. Sorry, if I only upload about Clarinets only. I think it's better if you all find it yourself cause I believe you all know your individual instruments better than I do that's why I only upload about Clarinets only but I'll try my best to find for you all okay.

Practice practice practice! I'm sure all of you want to join SIBF,so why not work hard for it? There's nothing free in this world,you don't get something if you don't work for it. Work on your tuning,respond fast. We have been spending a lot of time on tuning during combine.

Sec ones',I know it's hard but you have NO choice,bear with it cause it's just 20 more days away to SIBF. By this time,we should already know how to play the pieces well enough already but did we? It does not mean that you're a junior and you have the privilege to not practice as hard as what your seniors did. Seniors,you guys are already a SENIOR so lead with example. Being a senior does not mean that you are good enough,practice and improve even more! Guide your juniors and teach them. Who cares if you are a sec one or a senior? On stage,we still play as a band. So by this time,you should already know your pieces well,NO MORE wrong notes.

For those that failed the audition,practice hard and NEVER give up. Tell Mr Failure that you will stand up again and again no matter what! Give the right attitude! (: You must have the right mind set to do something well,with a mindset that tells you that : "Forget it,I can never do it." will just lead you to failure again.

Do the right things. Teach the right things. Learn the right things.

Practice hard! If you don't practice,nobody can help you. Seniors/alumni can only teach you but if you don't practice what you have learnt from them,you will just forget about it eventually. So what's the use? It is just wasting the time to make them repeat what they have taught you. Practice what you have learnt and apply them.

REMEMBER : IT'S 20 MORE DAYS TO SIBF AND NOT 20 MORE PRACTICES TO SIBF. BUCK UP!

POP has come to an end. Aww!

SIBF is coming! I do hope everybody practice REALLY REALLY hard and don't let your instrument just rot there. If you're not gonna practice then forget about joining SIBF. I also hope that all the Sec ones' are able to pass the audition! Work hard okay? Most importantly,practice with your tuners and metronomes,use them wisely cause you paid for it! I guess most of you know that when we are in air conditioner area,we will be flat and when we are in normal temperature,we will be sharp.

11 more practices to SIBF.

We must not give our audiences to see this kind of standard. Apply what you have learnt and don't take it for granted. Nobody will be there to hear your excuses,no matter how much excuses you have given,nobody cares.

Stop assuming that you are right every time but tell yourself that you are wrong so that you will try to improve yourself even further and not staying in the same standard. Don't tell yourself BUT make yourself to do it. It is seriously NOT the time to slack. I want every one to go up the stage happily and receive the results happily and it takes dozens of hard work for a good result. PERSEVERANCE is not said for nothing.

Practice even harder than as usual and you will find that it's worth it. Also,help your section mates that need help too!

I'm sure most of you already received Ms Loh's calls right? (: Hopefully you didn't disappoint her and work even harder! Band is resuming tomorrow! :D 8am,sec ones with PE attire and seniors with band tee with PE shorts. It's 4 more practices to POP. I hope you guys have already finished your homework! If not,do finished them as soon as possible especially E-blaze homework because we will have a busy week next week!

I assumed that everyone have the recordings for the two pieces so listen to them and figure out your notes,rhythms,dynamics etc! Ask your SLs if you are not sure with anything.

And remember,a good band is not only a thinking band but also, a band that is willing to learn and strive for something TOGETHER! :D

We all know that it is very tiring to wake up early and go home late but BEAR with it because the few minutes on stage and the claps from the audiences are worth more than these.

And we do not have enough time already,we will not be having band practices for the next entire week and if we don't practice hard enough,we will be bringing the same standard to every combine and how can our band improve?

POP and SIBF are coming!

I believe everyone can do it! We should all play out during combine. You may have played the wrong notes and rhythms but at least you tried and make sure that you won't make the same mistakes again. Never let failure be the king but success!

And for the sec ones,

Whatever Mr Lim,Ms Loh and the seniors told you,remember it and do it. Practice at home so that the next sectional,the seniors don't have to repeat what they have taught you the previous time and thus,they can save more time teaching you new things! Also,it will be very unfair for those that practiced so hard. I hope you guys had learnt many new things through today's sectionals. Work even harder and improve!

Reminder : SLs' do remember to ask for your sec ones' name,IC number,class and the size they want for the white band uniform either XS,S,M,L. Boys are recommend to get a bigger size.

And remember what the PCs had said,punishment will be given for the wrong attires and girls that did not clip up their fringe will have to run 10 rounds around the parade square.

We seriously have to BUCK UP! Practice more often and impress Ms Loh and Mr Lim! :D We all know that "practice" is a very very common word but that is the word that helps us to improve because there are no shortcuts to improve besides practicing. NEVER let laziness or lack of time to be the excuse for not practicing (: You won't suffer from practicing but to gain!

Please practice at home more often. Get the rhythms right and ask if you don't know during sectionals.

Sec ones,don't be shy to ask your seniors and study the fingering chart.

Seniors,do guide your juniors and teach them properly.

And lastly,apply what we have learnt from Ms Loh and Mr Lim. Don't always let them repeat what they said again and again. It's really very important to practice. One for all,all for one. If one didn't practice,it will only affect the whole band. So practice hard and NEVER give up! (:
